Gal Gadot Claims the DCU Change Up Was “Not Being Handled Elegantly”

The creation of the DCEU gave fans a darker look at the Justice League. But the issues in Man of Steel through The Flash brought a lot of problems for the future of the franchise. So when James Gunn and Peter Safran took over, they brought a new set of heroes into the mix with only a few remaining members of the DCEU coming over. And now Gal Gadot is sharing how that situation made her feel.

Gadot, who is often the butt of many a joke about her often wooden acting, was promoting her new film The Runner when she admitted to a lot of things she probably shouldn’t have. Like working on a film that used AI, not knowing that her former co-star, Tom Cruise, family sends people a cake every year (this is very common knowledge), and “tea” on the DCU as it now stands.

While talking to Josh Horowitz, Gadot claimed “They were like ‘We’re going to develop it with you, the third,’ la la la… But I saw the way everybody else were handled… The Henry situation was not being handled elegantly, to say the least. Same with Patty.” The reality is that the version of the DCEU that we had was scarred with the past failings and continuing with those actors would, for the most part, just drag it out.

Prior to Gunn and Safran taking over DC Studios, Henry Cavill announced that he was returning as Superman/Clark Kent after a cameo in Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson’s flop, Black Adam. It led to many speculation that Gunn promised Cavill a return to the role.

What actually happened?

The Gunn/Safran take over meant that things were changing. The planned Wonder Woman 3 was up in the air for a moment as the only real success the DCEU found with critical and audience success was the 2017 film Wonder Woman. But ultimately, Gunn essentially did a clean sweep of the universe and rightfully so! But he has since had to consistently answer for it and debunk rumors.

One such rumor said that Gunn knew that he would be taking over the DCU and kicking Cavill out before Cavill made his return, insinuating that Gunn made a “promise” to the actor, who would go on to leave his hit Netflix series The Witcher reportedly because of said return. The rumor stated that because Nathan Fillion claimed Gunn told him about Guy Gardener at the premiere for The Suicide Squad that Gunn knew what was coming. But the creative pushed back on said rumor.

“I don’t quite understand how that fits,” Gunn responded on Threads. “Aside from the fact I had no interest in running DC until Peter decided to do it with me so he could do the exec stuff & I could focus on creative, when I was hired to write Superman it was always intended as & pitched as a new Superman story. So why would I lie about not planning that at the Squad premiere which would have amounted to the same thing at the end of the day? How does this particular conspiracy theory make sense?”

Ultimately, the DCEU didn’t work and the studio needed a new vision and that didn’t include Gadot, who is clearly still not okay with it.
