DC Studios is already under the gun with their film slate including Man Of Tomorrow, Batman: The Brave and the Bold, and a Wonder Woman film in the works. Now it looks like a film surrounding two of Batman’s most legendary villains is on the table. Deadline is reporting that Greg Mottola, who has already directed episodes of Peacemaker is in talks to direct a Deathstroke & Bane film for the studio. They’re also reporting that others are in the mix for the director gig and nothing has been contracted yet, but that Mottola is the front-runner.
The movie was rumored to exist in some form or fashion of early development in September 2024 with a script from writer Matthew Orton, who wrote on the Marvel series Moon Knight.
DC Studios has been focusing on their heroes in the early going of its film universe with movies like Superman and Supergirl, but this would be the first villain centric title. Bane hasn’t made a film appearance since 2012’s The Dark Knight Rises, but has made plenty of appearances in animation, particularly in the Harley Quinn animated show. The character was created by Chuck Dixon, Doug Moench, and Graham Nolan and first appeared in Batman: Vengeance of Bane #1 (January 1993).
Deathstroke made his debut in 1980 from Marv Wolfman and artist George Perez in The New Teen Titans. Slade Wilson/Deathstroke is a former army soldier and merc who gets a super-soldier serum. He’s more of a rival/villain to the Teen Titans than Batman. He’s been portrayed by Esai Morales and had Joe Manganiello play him in a quick cameo in Zack Snyder’s DC films.
