‘Daredevil: Born Again’ To End With Season 3, Showrunner Dario Scardapane Quietly Exits

The “Daredevil” revival is coming to an end with season three, The Hollywood Reporter reported earlier. Not only that, showrunner Dario Scardapane’s contract wasn’t renewed and exited series while the third season is in post-production.

The End of the ‘Born Again’ Era

“Daredevil: Born Again” stormed its way back into audience’s hearts in 2025 after the original version on Netflix ended in 2018. While the reception to the first season was uneven, it was generally reviewed positively. The second season saw a staggering 50% drop in viewership, even though it received more critical acclaim in its sophomore season. On the heels of all that, season three will be the last for the revived show.

This bit of news drops just a couple of months after the show finished shooting. Making things even more intriguing, Marvel and Scardapane have low-key parted ways after his contract ran out. Leaving in the middle of post-production is an odd choice, one would think Marvel would keep him on until season three has reached the finish line. Now we’re left wondering who is going to take it all the way. This has been a weird stretch of Marvel TV cancellation news this summer, although probably the least controversial. We’re not likely to find out what’s going on either, as Marvel’s not commenting on the situation.

Where the Story Continues

“Daredevil: Born Again” continues to focus on the eternal struggle between Matt Murdock’s Daredevil (Charlie Cox) and kingpin-turned-mayor Wilson Fisk (Vincent D’Onofrio), the fight for the soul of New York City, and the reckoning with anti-vigilantism. The Disney+ series has been criticized for its pacing and watered down grittiness that the Netflix version excelled at, but its bringing in familiar characters and restructured plot beats have won people over in the latest season.

Season three will feature our newly-exposed hero doing prison time for his work as Daredevil, with Fisk in exile. Considering how much the cast expanded in season two, it’ll be fun to see if there anymore additional, familiar faces or brand new characters from the comics. The show continues to push the boundaries of social and political commentary in a way that accurately depicts America’s current state of affairs. The final season will in March 2027 on Disney+ and consist of eight episodes.
